Introduction

Pracinhas is a narrative adventure from developer porto-games-studio about the Brazilians who served in Italy during World War II. Players take the role of Quim, a young man called up to join the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, and stay with him from his call-up at home to his arrival in Naples. Play unfolds through walking, conversations with the people Quim meets, and small decisions, while short history cards with period photographs explain the real events behind the story. The characters are invented and written to honour the people who lived through these events, while the history itself is researched, and a page inside the game lists the sources used. The Call-Up, the first chapter, is free. A second chapter covering Monte Castello in February 1945 is in development and will arrive as an update on the same page. Progress saves automatically in the browser. On a computer, A/D or the arrow keys move Quim and E interacts; on a phone the game uses touch controls, and the phone should be turned to landscape. It launches in English or Portuguese depending on the browser, with a switch in the menu, and sound is recommended. The presentation pairs a 2D pixel-art look with a story-rich historical atmosphere.
