Dungeon's Melodies

About Dungeon's Melodies
Dungeon's Melodies, from developer diosdepiloto, is a free browser game that blends an 8-bit lo-fi synthesizer with a dungeon fight. You play as a bard, and every note you strike becomes an attack: it flies from the lute and damages a monster in the dungeon. A note stays out while you hold the key, then fades roughly one second after you let go. You can play on the computer keyboard using the Z to M and Q to P rows, tap the mini piano on screen, or connect a MIDI keyboard. Chords are your power move: press three notes together for double damage that also cuts through the Knight's shield. The enemy lineup includes slimes, bats, skeletons, a Specter that turns intangible from time to time, a shielded Knight and the King Slime. The synth is more than a combat gimmick. Eight dungeon modes each have a distinct sound and style, covering chillhop, medieval folk, chiptune, trap, synthwave, ambient, boom bap and vaporwave. Five knobs let you adjust Tone, Magic for the amount of lo-fi effect, Swing, Echo and Volume, while a Rhythm button adds a drum loop that follows your chosen BPM. If you want to keep composing outside the game, a free VST3 plugin is available: download it by sliding the game's sidebar or switching to fullscreen to reveal the button, unzip the folder, and open it in a DAW such as FL Studio or Ableton.
